TRGC Meeting Minutes,  March 21, 2024

            Meeting was brought to order at 12:00 p.m. by Karen Neilan, President

            Attendance: 38 active members, 15 excused members, 3 guests, 1 lifetime 

 Officer’s Reports

President – Karen Neilan

Prior to the official meeting, a tribute was made to Rosina Longo, she turned 100 this year. A certificate was given to her daughter in law, Patti Rogers Longo. Flowers and cake were displayed and a toast to Rosina, a TRGC past President was made.

  • Karen acknowledged our hospitality team, Rod Atkins, Manly Church, Mary Ann Richards, Doris Burr and Everett Munro. She also thanked Audio/Visual committee, Rod Atkins and Richard Bucklin for all they do.
  • Karen welcomed our guests, Patti Rogers Longo, Rosina Longo’s daughter in law, Holly Camerota, the First Vice-President of the Waterford Historical Society, Megan Brown invited by Val Haagensen.
  • The January 2024 meeting minutes were approved with no corrections. 
  • Karen announced that we are in need of the following officers of our club: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Asst. Treasurer, Recording Secretary. She expressed how important it is that the positions be filled. She asked that the membership review the policies and procedures and to follow up with Elaine.
  • Karen represented our Club at a round table regional meeting held at the Waterford Town Hall. Vonice Carr read a note from the President of the FGCCT, Karin Pyskaty, thanking Karen for all her efforts putting this together. Karen was extremely instrumental in the organization of this meeting.
  • The title of our committee Garden Therapy will be changed to Senior Gardening Nursing Home and Prison Therapy to Healing Therapy York Prison.

Vice-President – Val Haagensen

  • New Member, Carolyn A Koziatek was given her yearbook and name tag and we welcomed her to the club.
  • Val announced that she would not go on to the Presidents position for personal reasons. Copy of her announcement is attached.
  • Karen thanked Val for the tremendous job she did as Vice-President and Membership chair.

Treasurer- Elaine Lombardi

  • Report was distributed via email 

Committee Reports

  • Under the Civic committee, Margie Sydney gave a Presentation of the Terry Wilmot Gardens at the Bebee Phillips house. She volunteered to give this presentation at a meeting at the Waterford Historical Society. Karen thanked Margie for always raising her hand to volunteer. She put hours of research into this project. The presentation included the history of the gardens, the role of the TRGC, the flowers planted and plans of the future of the gardens. 
  • Therapy Gardens Nursing Home – No report 
  • Plant Sale- Maria Zalegowski asked members to gather some items together for the white elephant table, she will also provide a blueprint of the plant sale for the April meeting. There will be an additional table for annuals, Vonice is in charge of the perennials and is requesting membership let her know what they are bringing and the colors, also please limit ½ or no more than one flat of the same plant. Liz will man the bake sale table. Coffee and water will be available for the members as well as having some available to sell to customers. Claudia will be in charge of the raffle. Elaine will get boxes. Phyllis Grohocki will take care of picking flowers at Malerbas.  If you need some digging done, contact Rod and Richard. If you have vases to contribute, contact Laurie Markowicz.  Claudia asked that the Master Gardeners have a table. Claudia brought pots for anyone who needs them. Claudia asked that members give Vonice a list of what you are bringing. Peggy Schepp wants to bring houseplants from the prison to give away. Jane Bucklin will bring tea cup arrangements. Maria asked if we need another meeting of the plant sale committees.
  • Karen thanked Claudia and Maria for all their work as chairs. They are stepping down and Karen asked for membership to think about stepping up to become new plant sale chairs.
  • Program Committee- Kathy Pavelcak asked members to give any ideas and/suggestions for future programs. Please contact them via email or the TRGC website.
  • Workshops – Brenda Kramer reported there will be a workshop on March 28 at 1:00 pm. Tea and cookies will be served and members are asked to bring tidbits of info to share.    

Upcoming Events: 

  • April 11: 2024- Terry Wilmot presentation by Margie Sydney 6:00 p.m. at the Waterford Public Library 
  • The FGCCT annual meeting, April 17th at the Aqua Turf. Featuring Art Chadwick, “Popular Orchids for the home”
  • TRGC Plant Sale, May 11, 2024
  • TRGC Annual Meeting, Installation of Officers, and 70th Anniversary Celebration Enders Island- June 20, 2024, Karen, Pam, Val, and Brenda, will get together to go through the history.
