Bring plants in before temperatures drop too low and check them thoroughly for insects such as mealybugs. Here is a recipe for a mild household cleaner excellent for ‘washing’ your plants before bringing them into the house:
1 quart hot water (cooled to room temperature before using) in a spray bottle; 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 tablespoon liquid soap (Dawn).
Dissolve the baking soda in the water before adding the soap. The hot water will disperse the Dawn in the solution without shaking it up.
Spray the plants, both top and bottom of leaves, until the plant ‘drips’ then let the plant dry in the shade before bringing it inside. Don’t forget to spray the soil and the pot!
