Thames River Garden Club Minutes – October 20, 2016

President Everett Munro called the October 20, 2016 meeting of the Thames River Garden Club to order at 12:15PM. Everett thanked our hostesses Phyllis Cushing, Kelly Callahan, Jan Theiler, Jerry Theiler, and Manly Church for a delicious luncheon.
A motion was made by Jerry Theiler to waive the reading of the September 15, 2016 minutes and to accept the minutes as presented. The motion was seconded by Nancy Clark. The motion passed.
President’s Report:
President Everett Munro listed some important upcoming dates:
October 26, 2016 – 87th Annual Awards Meeting and Luncheon
November 15-17, 2016 Flower Show School Course IV
February 23 – 26 2017 – 2017 Connecticut Flower and Garden Show “ Woodland Enchantment” Hartford, CT
March 21-22 2017 – Landscape Design Study School, Course III
Vice President’s Report: Vonice Carr asked for volunteers to water the newly planted tree at the Waterford Historical Society. Watering needs to be done 3x/week thru November.
Treasurer’s Report: Vonice Carr stated that the club has received Thank You notes from all the community groups that received our 2016 donations.
Committee Reports:
Pam Atkins shared information about the upcoming Guest Day to be held Thursday, November 17, 2016 –Luncheon at 11:30; program at 1PM. The program, “Holiday Bling”, will be presented by Bill Graham. There will be a charge of $10 per guest/ non-member. Questions? Call Pam.
Web Page: The club’s web page address is: thamesrivergc.org. Mary Ellen Hagen encouraged anyone with computer / web page skills to join this committee which maintains our web page.
Plant Sale: Mary Ann Richard asked members to sign up to take home pots this Fall for the 2017 Plant Sale.. Pots may be planted now or in the Spring.
New Business:
Nominating Committee – This includes the immediate past president and 3 club members. If you are interested in being on this committee or are interested in a position on the slate of officers, please contact Dottie Nauer.
Announcements: Jerry Theiler reminded members of the Gypsy Moth infestation this past spring and informed us that a second defoliation will likely lead to the death of the tree. To prevent this, consider having trees sprayed next Spring.
